What are the risks of NOT being trauma informed as a yoga teacher?

January 31, 2023

I want to highlight what we risk if we're not trauma-aware and trauma-educated.

These are risks that affect both you and your students, so keep reading.

When you don't have a grounding in trauma-informed yoga...

🥺 You don’t know what you’re doing when it comes to working with people impacted by trauma - and your students can sense it

🥺 You risk re-traumatising students by offering practices that create more inbalance in their nervous system

🥺 You risk handling the space, pace and boundaries poorly

🥺 You open the door to relationships with students that are hard to manage, inappropriate or which put you at risk of vicarious trauma

🥺 You’re unable to explain the purpose of certain practices

🥺 You’re unable to create a container for healing

🥺 You run the risk of thinking all bodies and minds respond the same way to the practice

🥺 You overlook the extra value you can bring by being informed

🥺 You miss out on serving people more carefully, mindfully and safely

🥺 You make errors that are the difference between facilitating safety and healing and causing further hurt

🥺 You inadvertently make people feel singled out, unseen, unsupported, alienated, unwelcome, isolated, less than, misunderstood

🥺 You touch or instruct people’s bodies and private space inappropriately

🥺 You limit the range of options that make the practice accessible

🥺  You misunderstand relational and power dynamics which can lead to abuses of power, misconstrued expectations about your role and weak boundaries

🥺 You're unaware of vicarious trauma and how to protect yourself against it

🥺 You miss out on opportunities to take a deeper understanding of the subject (and more proficient teaching) to places where yoga is really needed

Now that you've seen some of the risks you're bringing to your teaching when you're not trauma-educated, we can work together to change that.

If you're ready to become a proficient, safe and confident teacher of trauma-informed yoga and learn how to grow your business,
fill out this short form to apply for the Trauma Informed Yoga, Social Change & Mindful Business Mentorship. If it feels like a good fit, I'll invite you to hop on a call with me to explore working together further.

In the words of past mentees...

"I couldn't recommend it more, it's a great big 10/10 from me!"

and

"THE best continuing education program of my career"
